What's your favorite kind of lip balm/chapstick?

Brand, flavor, etc. I'm looking for a really good kind that nourishes and soothes chapped lips.What's your favorite kind of lip balm/chapstick?
i have had problems with dry lips for a while too and i just found this lip balm stuff that really works great for me. It's called Lip Mender by ~H2O +~. Not only does it feel good on your lips, it actually heals them with continued use (so they stay nice even when you aren't applying it), so it's even better than a chapstick!





An interesting fact i thought i might share:


I used to use the regular Blistex lip ointment all the time. When i bought this stuff, though, the lady told me that from working with estheticians she had found out that continued use of Blistex can actually make your lips worse! Apparently it's not meant to be used very often because of certain chemicals it has in it that will damage your lips. It is only intended to be used occasionally (just like any other ointment). Who would have thought!!What's your favorite kind of lip balm/chapstick?

the Walgreens brand...works best for me when my lips are seriously chapped...its really cheap too.

Chap-stick brand chap stick for cold weather. Estee Lauder lip moisturizer for everyday use and plain old Vaseline for really dried, chapped or damaged lips.
I have large lips and they chap easily.

I use the Satin lips before i apply any lipstick and before i go out for the day.





The Banana Boat lip balm will protect your lips from the harsh sun (i bought mine at WalMart)





the Blistex lip infusion puts a lot of moisture back into my lips.

Burt's Bees is the Bomb!
not that into lip balm, but what i use is Lancome Juicy Tubes lip gloss. this works to unchap my lips. if you absoulutely must have lip balm, try blistex. it stinks a bit, it stings a bit, but it works.
Dr. Pepper or Strawberry Kiwi..I love all kinds.
Sally Hansen's Lip Inflation. It doesn't really inflate your lips (at least not for me), just makes them feel tingly. I use it when my lips get irritated. Very soothing and has a strawberry-mint flavor.

Vanilla Lip Smackers. =) Cheap and tastes better than the expensive ones.
Whatever the blue Blistex ';wet feeling'; stuff is. It just glides on.
I'm addicted to Burt's Bees lip balm. It has a cool minty smell and really works.

Can you make chocolate lip balm by melting a basic lip balm and adding cocoa powder?

I used to make my own lip balm, but I would use chocolate chips instead of cocoa powder. My friends used to love it so much, I made money selling containers in college. Sometimes, when I want a chocolate fix without the weight gain, I still whip up a batch. Here's my recipe:





Ingredients:


3 tablespoons cocoa butter (available in the pharmacy)


3-4 chocolate chips (as an alternative use white chocolate chips)


1 vitamin E, capsule


1/4 teaspoon almond extract (or cooking oil)





Melt the cocoa butter in the microwave.


Add the chocolate chips and stir until melted.


You may have to microwave the mixture again for a few seconds.


Add vitamin E and oil.


Note: Vitamin E is a natural preservative.


Stir very well, or the lip balm will turn out lumpy.

So I have looked and looked and looked and they just don't have it at any of my stores anymore. I originally got it at Wal-Mart, but they don't carry it anymore. Sometimes I hate Wal-Mart, cuz they stop carrying things all the time, right after I discover them - I think they are trying to make me crazy!





Anyhow, I really liked this Lypsyl lip balm and want some more, but can't find it anywhere around here. I have looked for it online, but there are outrageous shipping charges, like one on Ebay where they are selling it for $1.07, but then charging like $5.25 for shipping! I think I only paid like $1.29 for it or something like that.





Now, if I could find a whole box of it, I might think about paying 5 bucks for shipping, but not for one tube!

This may sound stupid, but I have an audition coming up and I desperatly need my lip balm, and dont have time to run out and buy more. I bought the tin thinking it would be more convenient than the tube, but I cant get it open. Any suggestions?How do you open a tin of Burt's Bees Lip Balm?

It would normally be fine so long as it is not comprised of things that would normally cause infection. Try to stay away from oil based lip balms and you should be just fine.
yeah its fine. i did that with mine. i hate how cleaning it makes it so dry around the piercing.
aslong as it doesnt go into the piercing it'll be fine, if ou wana make sure though then clean it after youve applied

Well I recommend Clarins Moisture Replenishing Lip Balm. I love it. I have very dry skin including my lip and this stuff totally works!!! It also has great ingredients like Shea Butter, Mango, Vitamin A and E. It's amazing. You can also try their Colour Quench Lip Balm. It is almost the same formula but comes in a variety of amazing colors. So you get the benefits of a treatment with the glamour of a lip gloss... I will include a link so you can check them out. They are all available online or at any Clarins counter. Try Macy*s or Nordstrom. I would stay away from things like Blistex, ChapStick or drugstore brands. They mostly all have petroleum in them which is not good for the lips. It stops the dry cracked feeling but does not allow your lips to absorb any moisture. It's a quick fix that does not cure the issue. If you are going to go with a drugstore brand check the label and make sure it doesn't have it in there. Burts bees is great but I found this Clarins one works better for me at least.

You ought to try In Color by Jordana's lip gloss. They are the best and I've tried too many personally and for my customers. I find Jordana to be cheap(only $1.99), shiny and it makes your lips incredibly sexy. I love the #07 sweet touch. (sheer peach color with little color not much. you can wear it on top of your lipstick or alone. It's very subtle).

There are some great colors, sheer, available through ';Burt's Bee's'; and they are natural products.
I really like the Burt's Bees colors. They're in Rite Aid, CVS, etc. They are inexpensive with subtle shades.
smackers, dr pepper and others are nice too.
My favorite is Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush lip gloss. It makes my lips amazingly shiny and moisturized. It depends on the color you get to have a little bit of tint. I like Piece of Cake because it's kind of neutral.

How to put lip pots/palettes into lip balm container?

I'm not a big fan of lip balms/glosses in jars, pots or palettes. I was wondering if there is a way to like melt them down and put them into an empty lip balm/chap stick container? Depends on the consistency of the gloss in the pot. If it is pretty hard while at room temperature - then yes. It's a bit messy to do though. Don't microwave them! Try putting the jar/pot/palette in very hot (not boiling) water - careful not to let the water get inside. Once it gets melty, use a small make-up spatula to scoop it out and cram it into the empty tube. If it melts completely, you can pour it in but that may change the consistency of the gloss. Don't refrigerate for the same reason. Let it harden slowly at room temp. Again - it only works with a few types. Most pot glosses are in the the pots because they don't have enough wax in them to be in stick form.How to put lip pots/palettes into lip balm container?
They actually won't screw back up, (sorry) i tried it after i accidentally put it in the wash. If you have a container that you use your finger in it would work but it sounds like that's what you don't like.
I think it would end up as a huge mess, but you know what? Go to CVS and buy some cheap lip balm in a little pot and try it!





Then you can try with more expensive ones...





But is it REALLY worth it???
i think it would mess the formula up because they are getting melted..but idk..because they get melted in your pocket or in a hot car or sumthing..and sumtimes they wont stiffen back up

Can soap essential oils be used in homemade lip balm?

I want to buy some scents for my lip balm and there are some essential oils on ebay that say they are ';skin-safe.'; They are intended to be used in soap and body butters. I am just wondering if they would be safe to use in my lip balm recipe. They are cheaper than the flavour oils because you can buy a set.Can soap essential oils be used in homemade lip balm?
Yes, you CAN use essential oils in lip balm production....oils such as lavender, mint, orange...they are all good for this purpose. However, if you are not familiar with the properties of essential oils, you may want to avoid using them just because some oils can cause reactions in people with allergies or certain health conditions. Also, when you use essential oils you only use a few small amount and they require special storage as they are light and heat sensitive.





Flavor oils would be your best bet. You get what you pay for, too. I've noticed that oil sellers on Ebay tend to sell very cheap oils for a lot more than they are worth and mark up shipping. they may be skin safe, but that doesn't mean they're safe for ingestion. No matter how careful you are, if you have on lip balm/stick on, SOME is going to get in your mouth. Homemade lip balms are usually very soft, which will make it easier for more to get in your mouth. Even if it doesn't poison you, you'll taste it, and it will be very nasty. Soap essential oils will taste like soap x 100. I say don't do it

I have VERY dry lips, especially during the winter.


I've tried Vaseline, it didn't really do much..


I've also tried Blistex, it worked great at first but after a while it made my lips even more dry.


Right now I'm currently using Chapstick (the brand). Cherry flavoured.


It doesn't really do much either.

I know I get dry lips in the winter and I think Burt's Bee's is a really good product. It really works and it's made from 100% all natural products, especially beeswax which helps dry lips. Bath and Body Works, their lemon moisturing chapstick thing (sorry, forgot what it's called exactly). It smells really good and the salesperson says it's really good for the wintertime and stuff. And I tried it there, it taste gooood. :)





When I have chapped lips, it just goes away by itself. But it helps to add cream to it. That's what I do anyways.
I wouldn't use burts bees. It dried my lips out BAD.





Use natural stuff.





Mix honey and sugar together and 'scrub' your lips gently to get rid of the dead flaky peely skin.





Then dab a little extra virgin olive oil on your lips, then put vaseline on your lips so the olive oil stays. Vaseline is meant for keeping moisture in.. it doesn't make it.

Use Aveeno lip conditioner with SPF 15 day and night. During the daytime reapply after they dry out. During night put a lot and leave it overnight. There are times that I don't even have to use it daytime because my lips are so moist from the night treatment. Though is better to use it during day time because it protects your lips from the sunlight.

Burt's Bees chapstick is really good, although it's kind of expensive... also Aveda has one called ';Lip Saver'; which moisturizes really well, and another good brand is Kiss My Face (it's organic) - their chapstick is smells really good and they have some great flavors. Hope i helped!

You have to be very careful nowadays because some products say ';not tested on animals'; however, sometimes the ingredients to manufacture the product are.





I buy most of my cosmetics from the Body Shop in the UK as all their products and ingredients are not tested on animals.





I suggest you write to the company, and be persistent as some companies do not like to admit it. A few years back I wanted to buy something from an a well known cosmetic catalogue (its quite big in the UK) and on the back of the order form it read ';our products are not tested on animals';. Because I am a member of the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) and knew it was a possible that the ingredients has been tested on animals, I wrote to the cosmetic company to enquire. I never got a reply. I wrote again and never got a reply. I was livid so I kept writing until I eventually got a reply which said the ingredients had been tested on animals ';for the safety of their customers';!!





Now, if I am unsure of anything I will contact the BUAV to double check.

tattoo aftercare like that from the hemp company is ideal. It's obviously going to be fine for use around your piercing and can be used on any dry skin, even as a lip balm!
vaseline should help, and it shouldn't hurt or affect your piercings but if it does just stop using it and rinse your lips with water x

Containers





Small glass pots are suitable for your lip balm. If you have any old lip balm containers you can use these but they must be sterilised first. To do this wash them thoroughly with soap and water then rinse out with rubbing alcohol. Rinse with clear water then dry completely before use.





Colouring the Lip Balm





The lip balm does not need to be coloured but if you would like to colour it a you can use few slivers of lipstick shaved from a new lipstick. It is necessary to use new lipstick as lipstick that has been used could be contaminated with bacteria.





Melting the Base Material





The base material, whether it is vaseline, petroleum jelly or beeswax, needs to be melted before you can add the flavouring or colouring. You will need about two teaspoons for each small pot. There are a variety of ways to do this but whichever you choose only just melt the material. It does not need to be heated more than that. You can use a double saucepan to gently melt the material with steam or heat it in the microwave. If you use a microwave be careful not to overheat it. Place it in a small container then heat for only 30 seconds. Check to see if it is melted then heat again for 30 seconds if it is not. Continue heating for 30 seconds at a time until melting occurs. I find the easiest way is to place the material in a plastic bag, tie the ends, and then float in some hot water. Once the material has melted snip off a corner and pour it out.














Flavourings





Once you have melted the base material the following flavourings can be added. Add only a small amount until the taste is satisfactory. Essential oils must be handled carefully so make sure you read the safety instructions that come with your oil before you start. Citrus essential oils (e.g. orange, lemon etc) should not be used as they can make you skin more photosensitive.





Almond oil, vanilla oil, cocoa powder, tea tree oil, camphor, cinnamon, ginger, peppermint oil.





Vitamin E

My favorite is Carmex and you find it in any drug store usually or Walmart. It also comes in cherry, mint and in a pot or stick. It's medicating and has a good base. My lips would chap all winter until I found this and my lips look so much better. It is clear and I wear it under or over my lip stick. Try one of the ones from Burt's Bees. I like the lip balm but they have lip gloss and honey lip balm too.

I think that Burt's Bees is the best by far. I like the kind with honey in it, it moisturizer better and has a nicer taste. The organic Chapstick kind is pretty good too but it does not work as well as Burt's Bees.
Burt's bees honey is my favorite. But one time I put it on and a bee started buzzing around me. But it didn't sting me though.
How far into natural do you want to go? Aloe Vera is fantastic. Crack one of those things in half and rub it on.

If you're making your own lip balm you might as well not use so many chemicals and everything! It's simple. Here's what you'll need.


-Vaseline (it's easier if it's in a squeezy bottle, but any kind works)


-Peppermint Extract


-Vanilla





Microwave the amount of Vaseline that will fit into your container or tin, for about 50 seconds. Put it in a small bowl, or something that is safe to be microwaved. Take it out, and stir it, to keep it a liquid. If it is still solid, microwave it for a bit longer. Then, add one or two drops of vanilla extract. This is optional, but it gives you a slightly darker shade of lip balm, and makes it smell great! Then, add a few drops of peppermint extract. This will also make a great scent, and will feel good on your lips, as well as moisturize them. Microwave again for about 20 seconds, and then take it out, mix it well, and pour it into your tin (or whatever it is you are using to store it). Now, put it in your fridge, and wait about 15 minutes. Take it out, and it should be dry, and the top looks smooth. I did this, and I loved it! It smelled great, worked well, and looked so proffesional! I know this isn't the answer to your question, but it's the best I can do, and it's much easier than running around town looking for so many complex ingredients! I hope I helped you though :)

Its the best. It smells like that first 5 seconds of a Wintergreen TicTac, but keeps smelling like that throughout, whereas the TicTac looses that yummy flavor. Its got the combination of vanilla, a hint of coconut, and a bit of mint too, but vanilla strongest. Its my favorite, and best smell I think.





The bummer is that LiPflavors brand is tough to find (used to find it at Walgreens, but in past year, I've only seen it at a kiosk in the mall).

Brigit Organics Honey Lip balm - lighter, but moisturizing and not waxy at all. Stays on a reasonable time, softens flakes and heals cracks.
Rosebuds, I bought it from Peter Alexander's shop (he is the guy who designs pijamas). Another one I like is one teaspoon, in strawberry, it gives a shine without being sticky and it smells good 2!!!

Last year for Christmas, I got a little keychain shaped like a Twinkie in my stocking. No. It's not bad for you. You can be ';addicted'; to it in a way... as in, if you're not using it, you feel like your lips are so dry, but if you can stand it a little while, the feeling goes away and you can go a few days without. I use Carmex, myself. In fact, a lot of lip balms are good because many have SPF sun protection which is good for your lips. Keep balming it up. :D

Mineral Girlz lip gloss doesn't dry out or become sticky. It doesn't contain alcohol like most other lip gloss and lip stick. It stays soft all day and keeps your lips soft and moisturized! Every other lip gloss I have tried gets sticky and dries out my lips. This doesn't tho! I use Simply Sparkle because I don't really want color I just want the moisture and sparkle!
The most moisturizing lip balm I have ever tried is Kiehl's Lip Balm #1. It comes in a pot and in a tube. It is a little liquidy (esp. if you keep it in a warm place), but a little bit goes a long way. It looks yellow, but it goes on clear and it lasts a long time. It is also flavorless, so if you like flavored lip balms this is probably not the balm for you.





Plenty of famous makeup artists use this balm on models for fashion shows because it keeps lips so supple and soft.
My sister just graduated from college with a degree in Chemistry and this was one of the experiments she performed. She found (and as a makeup artist, I totally agree) that Kiehl's Lip Balm # 1. It has SPF 4, protects and helps relieve chapped or cracked lips. It also protects lips from the drying effects of wind and cold weather.





I use it every day, and I have to say my lips are pretty darn soft, and I don't have to keep putting it on, which I find super annoying.





If you are the outdoorsy type, you can try their Lip Balm SPF 15. In addition to what the original does, it has SPF15 sunscreen which provides UVA and UVB protection.





I used to use Burts Beeswax, but Kiehl's works MUCH better, and that's saying a lot. Good luck.

Try to use water based make-up to avoid excess oil. And use a mild face wash with moisturizes since the Roaccutane* will dry out your skin. Oh and make sure to always wash your ands before applying anything to your face.
An aquos based moisturiser and soap would do the trick. A mild soap and any lip balm. Take care not to get products that are have any perfumes or any of those sorts in it. If you can get you hands on E45 moisturiser and lip balm, and aqua bar soap you would be sorted.

You see my lips are incredibly dry, and i'm totally out of chapstick, lip gloss doesn't help cuz i can't wear it to bed and i'm allergic to carmex any ideas?How do you heal chapped lips, without the use of lip balm?
I totally have the same problem...here's what I do outside of chap stick:


For temporary relief, wet a cloth and maybe microwave it just until it's warm, then hold it over your lips as long as possible, for example, while your watching TV or something. Not only is it incredibly soothing and relaxing, but for the next few hours your lips will be amazingly soft and moist (this is great if you're going out for just a few hours and want to make a good impression)


My mom always uses Vaseline on her lips and swears by it, but it burns and so I've never kept it on long enough to see. But she really seems to like it...


Also drink lots of water. This adds to overall hydration, and it works especially well if you hold the water in the cup to your lips for a second or two before you actually drink...doing this a few times a day really helps.


Of course, when you have chap stick apply it a lot...

MAC has this stuff called ';pigment'; it comes in a little jar and there is sparkly ones and matte ones and just a bunch of different colors.. u can apply it to your lip gloss and lotion ( i do) u can also use it wet or dry as eyeshadow or liner and sometimes i mix it in my nailpolish for a different look.

it made my lips kinda sore at the edges! which was strange coz i didnt have chapped lips to begin with. i think they use too much peppermint..





but i absolutely LOVE the honey kind.


although some people dont like the smell of it, it smells like 'sleepytime' tea and honey, its a woody natural scent. it moisturises my lips amazingly.





also Eyeko Fat Balms are really good





and the Pink Vaseline 'Rosy Lips' it has added rose oil and almond oil to moisturise, and a pink tint..(i dont recomend the regular vaseline, it doesnt help to moisturise your lips, it just acts as a protective barrier to stop them getting anymore chapped) but the pink one makes my lips feel so smooth even when its worn off.

Burt's Bees HONEY lip balm is the best kind out of everything Burt's Bees. That's the only one I ever use. I also use some vaseline every now and again why my lips are very dry!

Have you tried going with her to pick some out at a pharmacy? They make all kinds of flavors now. Try bubblegum, coconut, or cotton candy. Try some plain vaseline. It doesn't taste great but just smear on a small amount. It's cheap and effective.





I prefer the polysporin lip balm, it doesn't taste good either but it works well
Try the strawberry Chap stick. It works and it tastes fine

I suggest making an account on Makeup Alley. A lot of people actually say putting the chapstick in your pocket is key. It softens it enough for immediate use. If that makes sense[x

I have plenty chapsticks and lip balms and lip glosses but I thought it would be fun to try making my own. i want to make a peppermint chapstick by melting a candy cane and using petroleum jelly. I have an empty chapstick container that is washed out. Hi. Do not use petroleum jelly.Petroleum jelly is a PETRO CHEMICAL, IS VERY BAD FOR YOUR SKIN. Make your own UN-petroleum jelly. Use 2 ounces of beeswax( or another natural wax) and 1 cup of olive,castor,or sweet almond oil. Melt wax with the oil in a glass Pyrex cup at low temp in microwave at 15 second intervals till wax is melted. Let cool a little bit, then add your peppermint oil (very little) , then pour into tubes or pots. Try adding other oils as you get used to making lip balms. Basic Recipe For Lip Balm:








- 2 1/2 teaspoons oil/butter





-1/2 teaspoon beeswax





-1/2 teaspoon flavoring (optional)





- 1/2 teaspoon extra moisturizers (optional)

- 1/4 teaspoon color (optional)








With any recipe, begin by melting your oils, butters, and beeswax in a heat-resistant container. Pyrex measuring cups work especially well for this, as they can be put in the microwave and have pour spouts to prevent spilling. Alternately, you can use a small pot to heat the ingredients. Once they have all melted, allow three to five minutes for the mixture to cool. The purpose of this is to preserve later ingredients, which may be damaged by high temperatures. Use the cooling period to clean and sterilize your lip balm containers. Stir in any flavorings, colorants, and other optional ingredients. While the mixture is still a liquid, pour it into your prepared containers. You can either purchase these in the cosmetics department of your local store or reuse old chapstick jars. Once the lip balm has cooled and solidified, it is ready for use. Remember to keep the finished product in a cool place or it will melt.

I consulted Linda Cobb's book Talking Dirty with the Queen of Clean, my laundry Bible, and viola page 11, Chap Stick in the dryer. Since it is a lip balm, too, I image her technique for removing it will work for your situation. To remove lip balm from the dryer spray a paper towel with WD-40 lubricant and wipe out the dryer until the mess is removed. Wash out the drum with warm water and dishwashing liquid then dry a load of old wet rags. It will also remove the lip balm from your clothing, too. (Page 29) Spray on WD-40 where the lip balm melted, wait 10 minutes then work in undiluted liquid dishwashing soap and launder as usual. You can try Oxyclean but I think it's probably there for good
