It's the dry winter air. Spring weather will help heal it--and you can also get a cool mist humidifire to put moisture into the indoor air--Indoor air can be to dry also

Berts Beeswax helps tremendously. My mom just had a deep cut next to her lip the other day and 2 days later it healed. See if that helps.
